  • Italian island idyll: The Flegrean Island of Procida, little sister to the more famous Ischia and Capri, is a tranquil haven, full of stunning natural vistas, specklings of pastel-coloured houses and sun-bleached, cobblestone streets. This is the Bay of Naples’ best-kept secret, far off the tourist trail and with an unchanged Italian flair.

  • Garden sanctuary: La Suite Boutique Hotel is nestled in verdant surrounds and its gardens were once the orchard of a royal palace. Enjoy the views with a glass of wine from the hotel’s cellar, while the days away lounging by the lava stone pool on a sunbed, or take advantage of the resort's spa.

  • Enchanting al fresco dining: With its namesake flower creeping up the restaurant’s walls, Bouganville is nestled in the hotel's garden and serves light, fresh meals al fresco, seven days a week. You can grab a cocktail or enjoy authentic Campania dishes at Le Café, and if you really want to relax, grab a private cabana by the pool.

Though it could easily be overshadowed by Ischia and Capri – both in terms of size and number of tourists – the quaint, picturesque island of Procida shouldn’t be overlooked by those who want to escape the crowds and enjoy some true R&R.

Wander the streets near the port and watch fishermen with their hauls (then sample some at a local restaurant). Bliss out one of many black sand beaches, or climb to Terra Murata, the highest point on the island, which affords fabulous views across the Gulf of Naples.
